Thank You Coronavirus Helpers Google Doodle: The tech company has been honouring Covid-19 helpers by illustrating doodles featuring them on its homepage.
Thanks to ‘coronavirus warriors’ around the world, there’s some hope and light even during these dark, trying times. Although most of the world is under lockdowns, it’s workers in essential services and volunteers who have made sure everything is up and running, often putting their own lives at risk. To express gratitude, Google has been honouring various professions by featuring them on its homepage.
“As with all of our Doodles, we hope the series allows for helpers everywhere to feel seen, heard, and valued and for everyone to remember there will be a light at the end of what could feel like a long tunnel,” Jessica Yu, the Doodle Team Lead wrote in a blog post, drawing the curtains on a two-week special doodle series.
All the animated doodles — ten in total — were designed in such a way that the “G” represented a community sending their ‘love’ to the last letter that was designed to resemble a particular profession. Most professionals were designed with masks on, keeping the practice of social distancing in mind.
In the special animated series, in which the company claims it has for the first time developed “real-time Doodle series focusing on one theme” in such a short period.
From an ode to sanitation workers to medical professionals, the tech company tried to honour everyone without whom the world wouldn’t be functioning at the moment.
Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai took to Twitter to announce the launch of the series, which started on April 6.

The series kicked-off with a doodle dedicated to public health workers and to researchers in the scientific community. It then featured emergency services workers — with the last two alphabets in its logo representing a firefighter and a police personnel.

The tech company also honoured those often sidelined or not given due credit. Acknowledging the crucial work done by all custodial and sanitation workers, the tech giant said their “efforts are crucial for those on the front line, and those staying at home.” Around the world, people lauding sanitation workers for their services.
In the series, the company also honoured those who made the practice of ‘farm to table’ possible in global pandemic. From saluting farm workers and farmers, who have been working tirelessly to make sure there’s enough food, there were thanks for store workers as well.
Google also honoured the delivery sector for ensuring supply chains remain functional. It also featured workers in the food industry, who despite being usually shut for dine-in facilities, are presently focused on delivery services.
Though educational institutes have been closed and forced most students to stay home, many teachers have not been relieved of their duties as online classes continue around the globe. The doodle featured an educator wearing glasses, a blue mortarboard and gown who is delivering a lecture through video conferencing. While previous doodles in the series had the service provider’s face covered by a mask to highlight the importance of wearing one, the professor doesn’t wear one indicating she is at home.
In their blog post, the company stressed it’s not just essential service personnel they had in mind while starting the series, as it has been inspired by all individuals who have helped in their own little ways through acts of kindness.
“Beyond the efforts of essential workers, ‘help’ has become more than a concept, a desire or an unusual action. Help has become part of our day-to-day lives,” the post added. So, with this series the company wanted to acknowledge and harness the power of kindness and compassion more — “Because where there’s help, there’s hope.”
